The legacy of late Ovambanderu Traditional Authority (OTA) chief Kilus Nguvauva will be celebrated at Omimbonde Vitano in the Epukiro constituency this weekend.
Omimbonde Vitano, in Omaueuozonjanda, is to the traditional authority that Parliament is to Namibia.
OTA spokesperson Uazenga Ngahahe told New Era that this commemoration will give a chance to those people who did not manage to pay their final respect at his burial due to strict Coronavirus measures two years back.
“Our chief worked with many people in many areas – from education, politics and traditions. Most people are still touched by his untimely death, and the community leadership saw it necessary to pay homage to our chief,” Ngahahe explained.
The spokesperson added the late chief is still missed, as he helped many in acquiring education and employment – and through his love for sports, he made many friends who became family.
“He had a football team, called Kilus Eleven, AKA ‘KK’, who played in the first division league in the Omaheke region. This team comprised players from as far as Okakarara in the Otjozondjupa region and the Erongo region,” said the spokesperson.
He added the organisation of the event is going smoothly, and Omimbonde Vitano is ready to host the masses coming to Epukiro.
“All logistical arrangements started already last week; various traditional groups have already started arriving at Omaueuozonjanda, and different traditional activities are well prepared for the event,” emphasised Ngahahe.
He noted that the late chief was a generous person, who would attend up to three funerals in one weekend, and he never went empty-handed.
Thus, those who are willing to bring something along are welcome to do so.
“It was his trademark to help all the people, irrespective of their political affiliation or cultural background. He was a good unifier, which is why his late father chief Munjuku Nguvauva II appointed him to lead the community after him.”
Ngahahe added the late chief Kilus Nguvauva was an established farmer in the region, so various farmers’ associations are expected to be present at the event.
Among the government officials coming are the Omaheke governor Pijoo Nganate and all constituency councillors in the region.
“This is a traditional event; therefore, the uniform is important. We must respect this day with our full uniform as per our custom,” urged general field marshall Josua Muundjua.
The event will start today and end Sunday.
An OTA Supreme Council meeting will follow activities on Sunday.
