Former learners raise N$50 000 for A. Shipena
Windhoek A. Shipena Secondary School in Windhoek raised N$50 000 when it recently celebrated 30 years of continuous education with a gala dinner attended by about 200 former learners (alumni), teachers and friends. The gala dinner was held to raise funds to improve teaching and learning facilities at the school. The school management, teachers and alumni plan to do joint planning for 2016, with the aim of putting strategies in place to provide quality education to learners. The event was organised by a group of committed former learners with support from the school patron, Utoni Nujoma, the Minister of Land Reform. Former learner Sam Shivute and former head girl and current chairperson of the Law Reform and Development Commission, Yvonne Dausas, were some of the motivational speakers at the event. The evening was memorable for many former learners, as some have not met for the past three decades. The school choir and cultural group were vibrant and inspiring with their performances, while Tequila wowed the audience with her soothing voice. The school, which is situated in Windhoek’s Katutura residential area, opened its doors in 1985 with about 700 learners from all over the country. Currently the school caters for over 1 200 learners from Grade 8 to 12.
