LPM sets up base at Eiseb block

The Landless People’s Movement (LPM) has become the first political party to set up a political office at Eiseb block 10, a remote settlement close to the Namibia-Botswana border in the Otjombinde constituency of the Omaheke region.

Eiseb block 10 is situated about 140 kilometres from Tallismanus and approximately 380 kilometres from Gobabis and is an exit point to Gam and Botswana. The block is a home to thousands of Namibian returnees who in 1993 returned from Botswana and resettle there.  LPM has fielded Edward Hiangoro, a prominent member of that community, as its candidate for the upcoming regional council elections slated for 25 November. The Otjombinde constituency has been unpredictable when it comes to electing councillors.  The constituency was first under the leadership of Swapo before Swanu won some years back. Swapo again managed to win the constituency in 2010. However, in 2015, a Swapo candidate lost out to independent candidate Katjana Kaurivi who at the same time was a card-carrying member of the ruling party.
