Lüderitz - The Lüderitz Town Council and Namibia Public Workers Union (NAPWU) have negotiated and reached an agreement on workers’ benefits for the financial year 2018/2019.

The agreement signed last Thursday at Lüderitz Town Council's chamber saw both parties confirm they are satisfied with the terms and conditions of the day-long negotiations.

Council employees are happy the negotiations occurred in a civilised and peaceful manner that did not lead to any labour unrest.

The parties agreed on a salary increment of six percent for 2018/2019 across the board for all staff falling under the bargaining unit with effect from July 1, 2018.
The parties agreed workers should receive an increase in stand-by, transport, housing, and medical aid allowances.

Acting CEO for Lüderitz Town Council Otto Shipanga said this substantive agreement is subject to ministerial approval as stipulated in the ministerial directive dated August 8.

Lüderitz Mayor Hilaria Mukapuli urged council employees to start using their benefits rendered to them such as house and medical aid allowances.
She advised them the suitable time to use the benefits are now, rather than wait until they become too old to buy a house.

Chairperson of the management committee of the town council Calvin Mwiya congratulated the negotiation teams from both sides for the maturity with which they approached the negotiations.
