ONGWEDIVA – The Eenhana Magistrate’s Court has denied bail to a 39-year-old man accused of killing his mother before he burned her body, assaulted his niece, and set their house on fire.

The incident took place on Saturday around 07h00 at their homestead in Elombe village in the Ohangwena region.

The deceased was identified as Julia Ndapewa Jafet (61).

Eino Ndeulyetele appeared in court on Tuesday, and his case was postponed to 14 March 2023 to allow for further police investigations.

Ohangwena police crime investigator Zachariah Amakali stated that Ndeulyetele hit his mother multiple times with a dry stick on the head. She died instantly. He then proceeded to make a fire and burned her buttocks.

After the alleged murder, he also assaulted his sister’s eight-year-old daughter. He then set his sister’s bedroom on fire, destroying all her belongings. The young girl was later taken to hospital, but was luckily discharged as her condition has since improved.

Amakali added that the incident was discovered by a neighbour, who was alerted to arguments between the mother and son as well as the burning house.

The suspect and the deceased were staying with three other children, who were not home at the time of the incident.
