Mayoral Community Advancement Fund Launched for Eenhana

Mbangula OSHAKATI The Eenhana Town Council has launched a Mayoral Community Advancement Fund designed to contribute to the socio-economic upliftment of the town. The fund was launched recently by Mayor Julia Shikongo during a meeting with a number of business people, where N$21ÃÆ'Æ'ÀÃ...ÃÆ''šÃ‚ 000 was collected. Apart from being used to uplift the socio-economic development of the residents of Eenhana through development projects, the fund will provide scholarships or pay for tuition fees to promising students from disadvantaged families. She assured the business community that the town council would ensure that the funds collected would be utilized for the purpose for which they were intended and would be strictly managed and regulated in terms of the Financial Regulations of the local authority. Speaking at the same occasion, the Chief Executive Officer of the Motor Vehicle Accident Fund (MVA), Jerry Mwadinohamba, encouraged the council and its partners in development to work together as a team in order to achieve meaningful local economic development. Mwadinohamba, who is also a member of the National Executive Committee (NEC) of the Namibian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (NCCI) further advised the participants to explore Public-Private Partnership ventures with the local business community to enhance service delivery and infrastructure development. The Chief Executive Officer of Eenhana, Walde Ndevashiya, made a presentation on the potential business opportunities available in Eenhana. Such potential has emerged with the imminent extension of the TransCaprivi Highway which will run through Eenhana. According to Ndevashiya, there are many opportunities in and around the town in terms of constructing and establishing hotels, guest houses, lodges, modern filling stations, restaurants, laundry services, printing services, warehousing, truck ports, recreational facilities, arts and crafts, campsites, and others. 2006-11-01Staff Report 2
