MEFT invites black rhino hunting offers

The Ministry of Environment, Forestry and Tourism has one old post-reproductive male black rhinoceros that will be available for sustainable hunting during the current hunting season.

Namibia Tourism Board-registered Namibian companies have been invited to submit their written financial hunting offers in Namibia Dollars on when they intend to conduct hunting during the hunting season.

Written financial offers should be in sealed envelopes, deposited in a box at the MEFT headquarters before or on 21 August 2023, the ministry said.

In a press release issued on Monday, MEFT spokesperson Romeo Muyunda stated that NTB-registered Namibian companies, owned by or having in their employment a Namibian professional hunter (big game) registered with MEFT, are invited to submit their written financial offers.

“The hunting season will be ending in November 2023 within the provisions of the relevant national and international regulations, and the individual animal to be hunted will be determined by the MEFT; the hunt will be accompanied by MEFT officials,” Muyunda stated.

MEFT has one old post-reproductive male black rhinoceros that will be available for sustainable hunting during the current hunting season, and written financial offers should be in sealed envelopes, deposited in a box at the MEFT headquarters before or on 21 August 2023, Muyunda said.

Rhinos, just as any other wildlife species in the country, are a resource that, according to the Namibian Constitution and conservation principles, must be utilised to benefit the current and future generations of this country, Muyunda added.

He noted that old-aged rhinos become non-reproductive in a population, and some will even cause territorial fights that may injure and cause mortalities to reproductive young bulls. - Nampa
