OTUNGANGA - The mother of a 12-year-old boy, Sarafina Nghikongwa, was admitted to the Eenhana Hospital with high blood pressure. 

Immanuel Haimbondi was a grade six learner, who committed suicide at Otunganga village after he was accused of deleting his father’s WhatsApp App from the phone. When New Era paid Nghikongwa a visit at the hospital yesterday, she said this is the second child she has lost after her 21-year-old son died last October after he was involved in an accident with his father’s car. 

Another son of her husband also died in 2014 after he had killed his girlfriend at Omuthiya, and later committed suicide.

“I suffered. I almost died during the delivery process because I went through many operations. It was never easy to give birth to my sons,” she narrated.

Now, she is left with three children, but she is worried that they might also commit suicide. 

“Our house needs prayer. There is an evil spirit disturbing my children. May God intervene,” she pleaded.

Nghikongwa stressed that her son was right when he was telling them that he was being falsely accused of deleting the WhatsApp App from his father’s phone.

“It’s not easy to lose two children through suicides,” she added.

Also speaking to New Era was the deceased’s father, Johannes Haimbondi, who narrated that he told Immanuel to stop playing with his phone because he deletes Apps from the phone.

“He started crying. He then went into the bushes,” he added.

Johannes said later, he followed Immanuel’s footsteps because he wanted him to take the goats to go drink water.

“I followed the footsteps. I found him hanging from a tree, and was looking like a person standing. I called him, but he did not respond,” the father described the sad scene.

His son had written on the ground not far from where he hanged himself to say “I’m not the one who deleted the WhatsApp from daddy’s phone.”

 In addition, he said it was not Immanuel who deleted a WhatsApp from his phone, but it was deleted by his grandson.

“My grandson told us that he is the one who deleted WhatsApp from the phone because he was the last person to use my phone,” he continued.

Still in the Ohangwena region, a 24-year-old man burnt his grandfather’s homestead, and later committed suicide at the Outwilo village.

The deceased was identified as Erickson Trivanus.
