Mother, son held for stock theft

ONGWEDIVA - A 46-year-old woman and her son, aged 16, were arrested on Monday for allegedly stealing two goats from one of their neighbours.

The incident happened on Friday around 07h00 at Oidiva village in the Oshana region.

According to police spokesperson Thomas Aiyambo, a dog of the complainant’s neighbour led the search party to a certain hole, where they found two goat skins.

He said the complainant identified those skins as his goats that were stolen.

They were scheduled to appear in the Oshakati Magistrate’s Court yesterday to be charged with stock theft.

In another incident, the Oshana police arrested eight suspects, including one woman, after they were found in possession of a suspected stolen donkey at Onalunkono village on Monday.

The suspects were also found in possession of donkey carcasses, which they had slaughtered in the floodplain during the early hours of that day.

Meanwhile, the police in Oshana are looking for suspects, who allegedly slaughtered two cattle in a grazing area and loaded the carcasses in the vehicle at Okatale village on Monday.

According to the police, only four cattle were injured and were recovered, while the carcasses of the two slaughtered animals are yet to be recovered.

Police have urged the public to take care of their livestock, as the cases of stock theft are on the rise in the region.
