Munana, Shikulo create waves with RaZul MCC

Aletta Shikololo

Namibia’s entertainment industry is bubbling with excitement as Luis Munana and Pinehas Shikulo, better known as Zulu Boy, make history by launching their own luxury sparkling wine label, RaZul.

This Methode Cap Classique (MCC) drink comes in two flavours – Demi-sec and Brut, and was founded in 2017. It is proudly Namibian-owned, and is the first of its kind in the country.

Co-founders Munana, a well-known TV personality and a force in the creative industry and Shikulo, a local musician and designer, have combined their talents and passion to create RaZul.

Though it’s produced in South Africa, RaZul proudly showcases the country’s local talent.

At the launch event on Saturday, Shikulo expressed his enthusiasm, saying, “sparkling wine has long been associated with celebration and luxury, and our new offering is no exception. With its delicate bubbles and rich, complex flavours, it is the perfect way to mark any special occasion, or simply to enjoy with friends and loved ones. But our RaZul is more than just a delicious beverage. It is the result of years of dedication and passion from our team of expert winemakers. From the carefully-selected grapes to the meticulous aging process, every step has been taken to ensure that our RaZul MCC is of the highest quality”.

Meanwhile, Munana emphasised the importance of RaZul as a cornerstone for wealth and ownership. “As a nation, we tend to consume rather than create and produce, which means much of the wealth generated from our consumption goes elsewhere. RaZul was born out of our desire to create a high-quality product that’s made locally, and benefits our people both in Namibia and beyond”, he added.

“Our vision for RaZul was to create a product that could be enjoyed daily, and passed down for generations. It’s a drink that’s all about celebrating life’s big moments – whether it’s buying a new car, graduating, or getting married. Since 2017, we’ve been on a journey to create a high-quality product that can compete with big brands like Moët & Chandon and Veuve Clicquot. We wanted RaZul to match those brands in terms of quality, taste and presentation, and we’re proud to say that we’ve achieved that goal,” Munana said proudly.

The launch of RaZul has generated excitement among wine enthusiasts and celebrities alike, with many praising the brand for its exclusivity, quality and commitment to the Namibian creative industry.

Notable attendees at the launch event included high-profile figures from both the entertainment and corporate industries, all eager to sample this unique and luxurious MCC drink.

Munana and Shikulo have also been commended for their entrepreneurial spirit and dedication to promoting Namibian talent, both in and outside of the entertainment industry.

“RaZul is more than just a sparkling wine label; it’s a symbol of Namibian excellence, creativity and success. It has the finest taste, and we cannot wait to see RaZul on the market,” noted one of the attendees, Mitcheline Kangombe.

RaZul aims to reach all corners of Namibia, and the team has already established distributors in Zambia and Congo for international distribution. However, they are still figuring out the best way to distribute the product within Namibia.

“The purpose of the launch is to introduce RaZul to the local market, and the guest list comprises decision-makers, including hotel, club, lounge, retail shop and lodge owners. The goal is to discuss potential retail locations and distribution channels for the product,” he noted.
