My weekly take away - December: A time to enjoy and support village tournaments

*Stefan Ngolo

As November turned to December, we are rejoicing due to the fact that we are extremely flooded with sports all over the country. Organisers for the most anticipated annual village tournaments are glad and working tirelessly, preparing for the get together and arrival of teams from different places.

What was once a relatively sleepy time for the sports fraternity has completely changed into a vibrant and joyous atmosphere – and it is just about to get more interesting, as December has just kicked off.
There’s nothing quite like sports when it comes to bringing people together. There are many positive things which sports bring to the world. On the other hand, my main focus is how sport can and will bring happiness, harmony and joy that was absent for some time since the beginning of the pandemic.

Sport is a universal language that brings people together – no matter their origin, background, religious beliefs, race or economic status. For that reason, athletes, fans and family members always look forward to going back to their villages and enjoy beautiful games of sports at the same time, catching up with old friends and making new ones.
I would like to encourage everyone to support the sport initiatives at the villages because they are very important and they play a major role in uniting people. I encourage the local teams to prepare for their village or home town tournaments so their people can look forward to this festive season.

I also appeal for support from members of the communities to go out there and be part and parcel of the sport tournaments happening in your village or home town. The bottom line is let us enjoy sport while it lasts because we do not know what the future holds.
