N$2 million recreational park in pipeline for Omuthiya
2016-02-22Staff Report 2 Omuthiya Lack of public facilities in Omuthiya will soon become a thing of the past as the town council plans to construct a recreational park at a cost of N$2 million at the town. The development is seen as a move to attract investors and provide employment. A concept study of the amenities has been done and it is now just a matter of implementing and transforming the idea into practice, says the town council. According to the Omuthiya Town Council’s local economic development officer, David Israel, land for the massive project has already been availed. “In the meantime we are trying to correlate whether our budget will be enough for the proposed amenities and if it is within our budget then definitely the project will get the go-ahead soon,” he said. In terms of business growth and stability, he said: “It is relatively fair because we have all the basic services needed such as banks, clothing and grocery stores – all that we need is basically available. So it is just a matter of enhancing what is already in place.” Stressing that a shopping mall is also envisaged in due course he said the unavailability of land hindered its realisation. “But we secured a piece of land where the mall will be constructed.” Israel could however not say when the construction will start, alluding that the said investor is currently building a mall in another town. “As soon as he is done then he will move straight here,” said Israel. He said the council has initiated a training programme for small and medium enterprises (SMEs) personnel, adding that “this is one of it strategies to boost local businesses”. “We will be training SMEs in April and May. We want to equip them with business knowledge so that they can grow and develop into big business organisations. The council will further avail plots for lodges, tourism centres, agriculture and festival shows as well host/construct an expo trade centre, among other plans in the pipeline,” said Israel. 2016-02-22Staff Report 2
