The National Assembly has joined the growing chorus of support for President Hage Geingob’s medical treatment.

The Presidency recently announced that medical tests have revealed that President Hage Geingob has cancerous cells and that he will be receiving specialised medical treatment in the United States of America for a week with the help of leading scientists and medical professionals.

The National Assembly (NA) Speaker Professor Peter Katjavivi wished Geingob well, further saying the entire leadership of political parties represented in the august House have shown their compassion for the President.

“In a rare and commendable display of unity, the political leadership across all parties in the National Assembly has come together in support of President Hage Gottfried Geingob during his medical treatment, wishing him a swift and complete recovery. This collective gesture of goodwill transcends political divisions, showcasing a heartening spirit of camaraderie at a critical time for the President,” the speaker said in a statement.

He said the unity and support displayed by the leadership across the political spectrum, is a demonstration of the wish by the masses for the President’s quick recovery and his return to the office to continue to perform his constitutional responsibilities.

“The National Assembly, representing the voice and will of the people, expresses its heartfelt wishes for President Geingob’s rapid recovery. As he recuperates, there is a collective eagerness for his return to the helm of the nation, to resume his constitutional responsibilities as the respected head of State. This period of recuperation is a reminder of the human aspects of our leaders and the strength that can be drawn from unity and support across political lines,” the speaker stated.

During the President’s absence, Vice President Nangolo Mbumba will be the acting president.
