A 37-year-old Namibia man is currently hospitalised at a local hospital, following a horrendous ordeal, in which he was allegedly robbed, abducted and had his eyes surgically removed.

The attackers allegedly took his eyes with them after removing them.

The incident, according to reports happened two weeks ago in South Africa.

The victim, who is in the business of buying and selling items for survival, is now in Namibia.

He is a resident of the coastal town of Lüderitz.

In a widely circulated video clip recorded while hospitalised, he narrates his ordeal.  “The same day, I was leaving [to come] back home, the suspect organised a group of men to attack me. He said he wants to make a deal with me which I refused,” he narrated.

It remains unclear what type of deal this was.

He added that the suspects were practising ritual crime.

When approached for a comment, a family member of the victim refused to provide more details related to the attack.

“The victim is still in a critical condition,” she said.

Meanwhile, Nampol spokesperson Kauna Shikwambi said the preliminary report at her disposal indicates that
efforts are being made to establish what actually transpired. She said the victim is however reported to be back in the country and admitted at a local hospital for medical treatment.

“Once the statement is done, a formal complaint on related charges will be registered in Namibia and submitted to South African Police Service through National Central Bureau of Interpol,” Shikwambi said.

Yesterday, deputy international relations minister Jenelly Matundu was unaware of the incident and could not comment.
