2015-08-25Staff Report 2 "Frank Fredericks Still widely regarded as one, if not the only, and best sprinter to have ever graced Namibian athletics, the then little-known Frank Fredericks became Namibia’s first ever Olympic medalist when he snatched a silver medal in the men’s 100-meter dash at the 1992 Summer Olympics. He went on to dominate the 1993 World Championships, 1994 Commonwealth Games through to the All Africa Games. Today he is a Council member of the International Association of Athletics Federations (IAAF) and of the International Olympic Committee. Harry Simon At the age of 26, Harry ‘The Terminator’ Simon stole international headlines when he became Namibia’s first ever boxer to scoop the World Boxing Organisation (WBO) Light Middleweight title in 1998. In 2002 Simon moved up slightly in weight categories and went on to capture his second world title. Johanna Benson Johanna Benson in 2012 became Namibia’s first Paralympics medalist when he she scooped gold and silver medals in the women’s T37 100m and 200m races at the 2012 Summer Paralympics in London.
