Nampower invests in rural schools in Omaheke region

NamPower has, through its foundation, invested over N$1.2 million in equipment and infrastructural renovation at Motsomi Primary and C. Heuva Secondary schools in the Aminuis Constituency of the Omaheke region.

The two schools accommodate 392 and 671 learners, respectively.

The Foundation renovated the laundry room, and installed an industrial washing machine and tumble dryer at the Motsomi Primary School, which accommodates 524 learners in its hostel.

Before the investment, laundry at the school was done by hand, an exercise that has proven to be physically demanding over the years, given the amount of washing that had to be done.

C. Heuva Secondary School received a refurbished computer laboratory to equip the learners with the necessary computer literacy skills required in today’s digital age.

NamPower’s investment is premised on the notion that a conducive environment contributes greatly to the wellbeing of learners – and in turn, to their educational performance.

Speaking during the handing-over of the facilities, the chairperson of the NamPower Foundation Advisory Committee Dr Simeon Amunkete emphasised the importance of creating an environment where dreams can be realised, and where ideas can flourish into reality. “As we hand over these facilities today, let us remember that it is not just about bricks and mortar; hammer and saw. It is about investing in human potential.”

Receiving the donations on behalf of the two schools, the principal of Motsomi Primary School Magreth Gaowetse described the donations as valuable and crucial to the two rural schools.

She noted the burden of using hands to do laundry will now be in the past, while the refurbished computer lab for C. Heuva Secondary School will reduce the workload on teachers and improve the learners’ computer skills. “The gifts are going to aid with efficiency of doing an excellent job in the future. We are very grateful to NamPower.”

NamPower, through its Foundation, continues to support the education sector, among others, as it is an important pillar for socio-economic development.
