NASP Namibia captures bronze in team event
Windhoek The Namibian Archery in Schools Programme’s (NASP) development team represented the country at this year’s NASP World Championships in Nashville, Tennessee (USA) over the past week. A total of 16 archers from Namibian schools arrived in the USA last week and started shooting on Sunday. On Monday the Namibian teams competed against Canada and South Africa, with some of the country’s archers improving their personal best scores. Namibia’s A and B teams stumbled against the USA, but in the end the Namibians scooped a bronze, finishing behind South Africa, who won silver. Namibia was one of five countries participating in the competition that saw more than 5,146 archers competing in various categories. Each national team was placed according to their ranking scores. The team was accompanied by Rudiger and Marja Woortman of SKW Archery Club. In addition to the Woortmans being the Namibian NASP sponsors, Marja is also the national archery team coach. In September, the Woortmans, along with Tsumeb Archery Club coach, Frank Reddig, will attend an international coaching seminar in Malaga, Spain where they will enhance their coaching skills for the betterment of archers countrywide. The Namibian schools archery team is expected back from the USA today.
