NTA tennis league deliver fireworks
Windhoek The popular Namibia Tennis Association (NTA) tennis league continued with three encounters in the men’s second division, one in the men’s third division and two exciting clashes in the women’s second division in Windhoek last weekend. In the men’s second division, CTC B prevailed by 15 to 5 points over UNAM and as a result of the no show of the Namibia University of Science & Technology (NUST) team, CTC B were the lucky recipients of twenty league points from CTC C. In the women’s 2nd league, City of Windhoek defeated NUST by 13 to 7 points while the City of Windhoek men’s team returned the compliment by seeing off NUST students team by 19 to 1 points. DTS took 20 points by default due to no show of the Police College side. In other action, CTC B earned hard fought points when its top player Jurgens Twyman beat UNAM’s top gun Eno Akpabio 6/3 7/5. However, CTC B captain Kyalo Kitheka took a beating from his UNAM counterpart Patrick Paulus losing 3/6 3/6. The CTC B doubles team of Lawrence Kahindi and Gino Braz beat the UNAM combination of Chris Mundukuta and Sem Davis 6/2 6/0, but the pair faced a much harder challenge in their 2nd match against Akpabio and Paulus. After losing the first game 2/6, the pair came back strongly to win the 2nd game 6/4 and finally prevailed in the 3rd match through a tiebreak 10/6. The CTC B combination of Twyman and Kitheka defeated UNAM’s David/Mundukuta tandem 6/0 6/3. In the men’s third division, City of Windhoek’s leading player Gospel Mwilima overcame NUST’s Megameno Shipanga in three sets to claim a 2/6 6/2 6/0 vicotry. Troosiy Shivangulula defeated NUST captain Bratwin Brock 6/0 6/1 while Bourquin van Wyk defeated NUST’s Edwin Tsowaseb 6/2 6/2. The City of Windhoek also claimed the two doubles matches. Mwilima/Shivangulula beat Brock/Uaatjo 6/0 6/1 and Van Wyk/Mwilima had the upper hand coming out tops 6/4 6/2 against Brock/Tsowaseb in the final match. In the City of Windhoek women’s team match against NUST, most matches were a tightly contested affair. Charmaine Mwilima struggled in her 1st set against NUST’s Stefanie Garises but finally won the match in three sets 1/6 6/0 6/0. Lydia Kyobetsi defeated Nathalia Kupembona 6/2 6/2. The doubles was won by Charmaine Mwilima and L. Kyobetsi 6/4 7/5. League activities continue on the 13th of August with matches in the men’s 1st, 2nd and 3rd divisions as well as the women’s 1st and 2nd divisions.
