OMUTHIYA – The National Youth Sports Development Platform (NYSDP) has started empowering young coaches in Namibia through its various programmes to create awareness of sport for development issues in less-privileged communities.

A group of 16 young coaches underwent a three-day training workshop at Omuthiya in the Oshikoto region, which started on Friday until Sunday.

NYSDP chairperson Isa Saidi said the workshop focused on identifying, nurturing and developing sports in underprivileged communities.

“Young people lack the opportunities to learn how to play sport, so we visit them in rural areas,” said Saidi. He said they want underprivileged communities to use sport as a development catalyst in creating platforms that empower, encourage and support community development through physical and recreational activities.

He added that they kicked off their programmes at Eenhana town in the Ohangwena region on 27-29 January 2024.

Joseph Hamutenya said the workshop has helped him to become a better coach in his professional life as a football coach.

NYSDP is a non-governmental organisation that was established in 2013, and is funded by the Global Fund for Children from the United Kingdom. - Nampa
