2015-08-14Staff Report 2 Namibians, why do we worship Nicki Minaj, Beyonce, Kim Kardashian but crucify Blossom and Adora? We are practicing double standards and it is not right. Every day you make it your mission to look like these international fakes and follow their stupid trends but when a Namibian entertainer tries something by Namibian standards coined as “daring” we want to crucify them. No, she is oumarig and boring. People said. She shakes up things with her latest album “Indamo” and even adds a house version of her song “Indikupapatele” of which NOBODY cared. She even went as far as shaping up her image with revealing a bit of skin. Now it’s “it does not fit her, she is acting like a cheap slut”. Mara, Namibians…what do you want from Namibian entertainers? Same can be said about Adora. No she just features. She has a stupid voice they said. She drops “Ti Xuro” and goes out of her comfort zone by hitting stages around the country with energetic performances. STILL, it was not good enough for Namibians. Namibians never seem to be satisfied with what entertainers do. Their music is never cool enough to play at parties. Their brands (clothing line) are never dope enough to rock in public. Their trends are never catchy enough to have social butterflies jump on it. Not so long ago, Gazza tried to set a trend to get Namibians to make a short clip of them dancing to his hit song “Shuna” and post it to social media. It never took off the way he wanted it to. But when Cassper Nyovest did the same with Major League Dj’s Slyza Tsotsie, we had Namibians making endless clips and tagging Cassper on Instagram. That Slyza song is not even all that compared to Shuna! Also, Neptune Black and AliThatDude had a feud. Nobody gave a rat’s ass about their public spat. The minute Meek Mill tweets Drake, the whole Nams is in a frenzy. What is shocking is that, despite your lack of patriotism and support, you still have the audacity to crucify these entertainers on their lack of innovation and God knows what else. I always believed that, if you support-you are more than welcome to formulate a negative or positive opinion. However if you have never bought a Blossom album, attended a Blossom show, rocked a Blossom T-Shirt then you have no business voicing your opinion on her brand. So what is it that we want from Namibian Entertainers? They have good music. They have good clothing lines. They HAD water lines but because of lack of support it died! They had magazines! They have albums. Let us kill the double standards. Let us stand behind anything Namibian. That is the only way platforms such as MTVBase will take us serious.
