Ondangwa starts N$1.8m road upgrade

The Ondangwa Town Council has embarked on upgrading a gravel road to bitumen standard at the cost of N$1.8 million, CEO Ismael Namugongo said during the ground-breaking ceremony on Monday.

The road is situated at Oluno Extension 1. The project will also include an earth channel on the planned 1.3km distance.

The road upgrade is scheduled for completion in two months.

“We will continue bringing quality roads and municipal services to most of the old settlements,” said Namugongo.

The CEO added that the town faces a plethora of challenges, including poor infrastructure development, sewer, and water shortages in the old settlements including Oluno.

Ondangwa councillor Nicodemus Amadhila, has requested the contractor to employ at least 70% of the residents of the town on the project, since the project is in the town. Try Harder Construction CC is the contracted company for the project, with Wana Engineering the consultants.

Meanwhile, a total of 160 erven at Ondangwa’s Onguta location were connected to a new sewer pump station.

The project which cost about N$7.5 million was completed in June this year. On another positive note, Ondangwa council spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said they had managed to fully service 178 erven with water and sewerage networks.  These serviced erven have already been occupied.
