Ondangwa water tower commissioned

The Ondangwa Town Council officially commissioned a water tower with a capacity of 540 cubic metres on the ground and 240 cubic metres on the elevated portion on Thursday.
According to Ondangwa spokesperson Petrina Shitalangaho-Mutikisha, during the financial year 2022/23, the council set aside N$7.1 million for the construction of the water tower in Extension 25.

“The water tower’s construction is completed and is now serving the houses in Extension 24, 25, 26 and in Uupopo,” said Shitalangaho-Mutikisha.
She stated that the residents of these extensions have been in the past affected by water interruptions especially when there is a power outage or major pipe breakdowns.

She added that the new tank will improve the water pressure in the areas and serve as a storage in times of water interruptions.

“Having that storage in those areas will ease the pressure from other storages/tanks in town that have been supplying water to Extensions 24, 25, 26 and Uupopo,” she said.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha further explained that in supplying water throughout the town, this tower is an addition to the two water towers in Oluno, Ondangwa Extension 1 and 2 and towers in Ondjondjo and Extension 17, and Namwater main reservoir that feeds some parts of the town too.

Last month, a total of 160 erven in Onguta were officially connected to a new sewer pump station.

The project, which cost about N$7.5 million, was completed in June this year.

“The sewer waste from the houses will be reticulated all the way to the sewer pump station. The first manhole is called the junction where water comes in and it is screened. From the manhole, it enters into the sewer pump station,” Shitalangaho-Mutikisha said.

Shitalangaho-Mutikisha mentioned that they have successfully provided full water and sewer services to 178 erven, which have been occupied.

“A total of 102 erven in the same area have partial services for water, sewer, and electricity,” she said.
