Opinion - Year of war in Ukraine… falsification of reasons and approaches to conflict

About a year ago, Russia was forced to launch a special military operation to “denazify” and demilitarize Ukraine. This year has been a hard time for Russians, but they endure hardships, realising that otherwise the aggressive bloc NATO, which has been rushing to Russian borders in recent decades, may eventually come to their home.

The head of European diplomacy Josep Borrell in his articles on the anniversary of the event again denied Russia the right to ensure national security, recognizing only the right of Western and pro-Western countries to be protected by expanding military blocs.

The Europeans do not want to mention what triggered the outbreak of hostilities and violence on Ukrainian territory, especially five waves of advance of the aggressive NATO towards the Russian borders, arrogant ignorance of Moscow’s numerous calls to discuss its concerns.

Western countries prefer to remain silent about their violation of the principle of ensuring the security of some states by creating threats to others.

Today, when Russia fights against threats for its territory from NATO, the European Union hypocritically accuses it of colonial ambitions. Why is it hypocritical? Because Russia has never had colonies especially in Africa.

On the contrary, Moscow had helped many African countries gain independence. While the European countries colonized the African continent and plundered it for centuries, creating their well-being at the expense of the African peoples and today posing as great humanists. Gentlemen, return the loot of centuries and we will not need your today’s handouts!

Brussels is once again trying to accuse Moscow of destroying Africa’s food security. This is a complete falsification and juggling of facts. Russia is interested in supplying its food all over the world because it has income from this. It was the Western countries seeking to bleed the Russian economy that introduced a huge number of anti-Russian sanctions, which broke many traditional supply chains, including to African countries.

Russia understanding the threat to Africans has offered up to 500 000 tons of grain to the world’s poorest states for free, but Western countries are intimidating anyone who has any contact with Moscow. Many EU charitable foundations also redirected financial flows to Ukraine, reducing the amount of assistance to African countries.

Mr Borrell in his articles often mentions the EU’s desire to restore peace in Ukraine. It’s again hypocrisy! The United States and Europe continue large-scale arms supplies to Ukraine, which reduces Kyiv’s motivation for peace negotiations, leads to an escalation of violence and an increase in the number of civilian casualties. Lack of control in deliveries poses a threat of modern weapons falling into the hands of terrorists not only in Ukraine, but also abroad. Portable anti-aircraft missile systems (MANPADS) pose a particular danger.

Resolutions of the UN General Assembly 62/40 “Prevention of the illegal transfer of MANPADS of unauthorized access to them and their unauthorized use” of 2007 and “Elements of export controls for MANPADS” of 2003 are grossly ignored.

The US and EU are now calling on Africans to choose the “right” side of history and turn their backs on Russia. Turn away from those who, shoulder to shoulder with us, fought for the independence of our countries, giving their lives. All this is done traditionally with open manipulation of public opinion under the slogan of defending and promoting democracy.

It is bitter to see how many representatives of the younger generation, not realizing all the hidden threats, seek to embrace the West, which always approaches cooperation rationally “debit-credit” and nothing personal, only business.

Today, in the difficult conditions of the international situation, fraternal ties between peoples are being tested. Some countries steadfastly and proudly adhere to their traditional beliefs and positions even under the threat of Western sanctions, while others cowardly “run across” to the camp of the former colonialists in the hope of another handout.
