The second edition of the Opuwo Mayoral Cup competition, which took place at the Newman Katuta Sports stadium in Opuwo last weekend, comprised football, netball, tug of war and athletics teams from various parts of the country.

An amount of N$110 000 was up for grabs between winners of various sports codes, in addition to trophies and
medals. 

In the football category, about 24 teams turned up to vie for N$55 000 in prize money. Omaheke United stunned Power Boys 1-0 in the final to pocket N$30 000, a trophy and 20 gold medals.

An amount of N$15 000 plus 20 silver medals were given to Power Boys as runner-ups, while Chula Chula and Ongongo each pocketed N$5 000 for coming third in the competition.  In the Old Crocks football category, Legends from Ruacana were crowned champions after crushing Onjose Jongua 1-0.

The legend champion Ruacana pocketed N$5 000 plus 20 gold medals, while an amount of N$3 000 and 20 silver medals was given to the runner-up, Onjose Jongua.

Semi-finalist Opuwo Town Council and Young Rangers shared an amount of N$2 000.

Extreme Eagle were crowned netball champions after beating Extreme 26-20, taking home N$10 000 plus 12 gold medals and a trophy.

Having scooped second place, Extreme Dreamer walked away with N$5 000 and 12 silver medals, whereas semi-finalists Namwater and Opuwo Rebels shared a cash prize of N$5 000 for their efforts. 

In the Tug of War battle, the Opuwo T own Council B team scooped the first position, followed by the Namwater B team whereas the water utility's A team and Opuwo Town Council A came third.

The winner, Opuwo TC B, pocketed N$2 500, while Namwater B took home N$1 000, whereas Namwater A and Opuwo TC A shared N$800 cash.

No teams registered to take part in volleyball and women’s football.
