Oshakati launches totem expo

Ongwediva – Oshakati mayor Leonard Hango says a nation without culture is like a tree without roots, hence the hosting of the annual totem expo at the Oshakati Independence Stadium on 4 December 2023.

Hango said the aim of the expo is to unite and educate people of different tribal and cultural backgrounds.

He was speaking at the official launch of the totem expo at the Oshakati Town Council premises last week.

Hango said he was proud that after three years of Covid-19-induced absence, they had finally revived the totem expo which has been elevated to bigger heights.

He further said the expo’s aim is to provide a platform for all Namibians to learn and strengthen their diversity in cultures. It also provides a good platform for all enterprises, and institutions and gives an opportunity to business sectors to showcase their business and services.

“I urge people to already apply for exhibition stands because the forms are readily available,” added Hango.

The mayor went on to express positive feelings that the expo will be fun. Different professionals will showcase what they do and educate the youth on different cultures and beliefs.

“I am looking forward to seeing all companies taking part in this event,” added Hango.

The chief of Oukwambwi traditional authority Ndilimani Iipumbu, said events of this nature were always looked down upon and regarded as less important.

He however said events of this nature are very important because they promote unity and togetherness among different tribes.
