Our Street Names
"Neville Basson I would just like to take this opportunity to pay tribute to some of our Namibian children today. To our first ever Siamese twins, may God bless you I pray that God give us guidance as to what to do from here concerning these twins. To little Simonie Lawrence who urgently needs a liver transplant , may God protect you, you are the future of this country. In the same breath I would just like to clear the air on the article about Simonie yesterday. We were never consulted by any organizer to perform at Simonie's fundraising event and I am totally dismayed that my name and Laz's name have been used in this article for whatever reason. So, if there is anyone attending this fundraising dinner tonight for little Simonie, don't feel cheated if we are not there. If the organizers would have been transparent enough to consult us well in advance we could have considered it ... maar nou ja , some clever agent made some stupid promises that can seriously harm our credibility. Once again, sorry for the inconvenience. Well, back to some less stressful issues. I was driving through town the other day, quite aimlessly because I was scared to go to my own house. You see, I have a one-year-old son that drains the living daylights out of me whenever I am home! Ever since he came into my life I can't remember when was the last time I watched CNN in peace, maar nee when his mother is watching "" When you are mine"" he is tjoepstil ( dead quiet )! I tried to take the guy back to MediCity to ask for a refund , but his warranty expired about six months ago ... so I'm stuck with him for the rest of my life! Anyway, as I was saying I was driving through town! For some reason I just got stuck on some of the names that our streets have. Now these are some of the weirdest names. Some of them are quite ''coroniar'' , and others just don't make sense to me at all. Now please take a look at some of these names and you tell me does this relate to anything we are or what! Columbia Street : Okay, after all the Kimbundus who get caught at our airports bringing drugs into our country did we now decide to give the producers a street name in honour of the ''product'? Beethoven Street /Bach Street : Ich liebe SÃÆ'Æ'Æ'ÃÆ''šÃ‚¼dwest , huh? What did these two composers ever do for this country huh? This music is ''kammastag'' for the highly intellectuals, please ... I don't think Dr Joe Diescho listens to this. These street names must be changed immediately to Gazza street and Mshasho street ! Puccini Street: It's bad enough that they won the World Cup on defensive football , now we have Italian street names where pitch black people live! Martha Street /Anna Street : I wonder in which kitchen did they work to be granted the opportunity to have streets named after them. Chrysler Street /Holden Street : Ja nee ... these street names are car Names ... in Khomasdal! Nuff said! The following names mean something to us all: Mandume Ndemufayo : This was a very hardegat black guy who decided to fight back. Sam Nujoma Drive: Okay, this guy saw what Mandume did and took it further. Hosea Kutako Drive: After he discovered how to defeat gout with cataflam all Hereros honoured him with a street name. So please comrade Niilo, re-look the allocation of names in certain areas, well ... let me check on this turn this ... maybe I can have a Neville Basson avenue down here ... peeeeeeeep! Uit die pad! M'bye"
