NKURENKURU – Inspector General of the Namibian Police Force Joseph Shikongo has said the force plans to promote over 1 000 constables during this financial year.

“There is a letter that is going to go out soon, considering more the lower level of our organisation - the constables,” he said during the inauguration of the Nkurenkuru police station in the Kavango West region’s capital Nkurenkuru on Thursday. 

Shikongo said during the last promotion three years ago, they had a challenge of a large number of officers who had to be promoted. Thus, some of the officers were left on the list for promotion, and he promised to start with those members as well as add more.

Shikongo then urged the commanders to execute the promotion fairly.

“Commanders should really consider members who meet all the requirements, and it must be based on merits, not on friendship, not on favouritism, not on tribalism, and not on ethnicity,” he stressed. 

He further highlighted that the Force is committed to gender considerations, emphasising that the top three positions in NamPol have two deputies from both genders, which can be confidently considered as an achievement.
