Pangolin suspect granted bail
Rundu A 63-year-old pensioner together with a 28-year-old man were granted bail of N$1 000 each in the Rundu Magistrate’s Court on Monday when they each appeared on a charge of possession of controlled wildlife products. The duo were arrested on Thursday evening after the police found them in possession of three pangolin skins and a hyena skin near Ngandu Lodge in Rundu. “We arrested them after we heard that they were looking for a buyer and after picking up the information, we acted promptly and through an undercover operation we found them carrying the items, thinking they got a buyer,” said the Kavango East acting crime investigations coordinator, Chief Inspector Chrispin Mubebo, before sending the two suspects to court. The two suspects, Haneb Matheus, 63, and Mawaya Tovoro, 28, both Namibians, appeared before magistrate SN Samupofu while Helvi Hanhele prosecuted and Johannes Kandjimi was the court interpreter. The case was adjourned to September 27 for further police investigations.
