Pensioner dies in fire

A 63-year-old man died in a fire when the room he was sleeping in burned down at Okamwandi Kamadhinga in the Omusati region on Monday.

According to Omusati police commander Titus Shikongo, the incident occurred at around 22h00.

It is further reported that the deceased’s son with whom he was staying went to render assistance when he heard the deceased screaming for help. However, he could not do much as the whole room was already up in flames.

It is suspected that the fire might have been caused by a cigarette since the deceased is said to have been a smoker.

The deceased’s body was burned beyond recognition and the remains could only be removed in the morning when the heat subsided.

The deceased was identified as Shipili Simon Shikongo.

His remains were transported to Okahao Police mortuary for postmortem to be conducted.
