Petrus Kavhura Cup on the radar

The popular Petrus Kavhura Cup (PKC) will return in December this year, after it could not be staged the previous year due to the pandemic that caused most sporting activities in the country to be cancelled.

Chairperson of the cup Haingura Poulus Ngula said due to the ongoing pandemic, various changes have been made to the annual football tournament.

Normally, the cup was played on a league basis, which used to see the competition run over a space of three to four months – but this year, the cup will be played on a knock-out basis.

“Due to the pandemic that we all know has impacted our normal living lifestyles, we will now host the tournament for one week,” Ngula said.

The cup competition is played by third division teams in the Ndonga Linena and Ndiyona constituencies.

“So far, we have six teams that have already confirmed their places at this year’s competition – and I think we can go ahead with those that have registered already, given the current regulations. This will also assist us to combat the spread of the virus.”

The main aim of the tourney is to develop sport in the rural area.

The venue and date will be communicated in due course.
