Pienaar outsmarts men in angling champs
Windhoek The fourth Bank Windhoek Namibia Bass Angling Association (NBAA) National Competition took place at Lake Oanob on May 9, 2015. Lake Oanob had received considerable inflow (20 percent) a few weeks prior to the competition, which changed fishing patterns completely. Anglers that had practised before the competition knew that the fishing was going to be tough and that patience was going to be the order of the day. Boats were launched early and everybody eagerly waited to get going. Most of the fish were caught close to the inlet of the dam. The water there was far dirtier than the water in the rest of the dam, but it was also more oxygenated than the water in the rest of the dam and fish love oxygenated water. Only nine fish made it to the scales for the day, which just goes to show how tough the fishing actually was. Sonita Pienaar, who is registered as a lady angler, managed to catch two good fish and as a result won the competition overall, beating all the senior men anglers. This was the second time that Pienaar has managed to win a competition overall. She definitely managed to pull a rabbit out of the hat and left a whole lot of men with bruised egos. Max Pieper caught the biggest fish of the tournament, weighing 2.92kg. The results are as follows: Senior Men: Sonita Pienaar 2 fish 4.189 kg Jacques Swart 3 fish 3.565 kg Max Pieper 1 fish 2.92 kg Pienaar won the men’s division and the ladies division and no other ladies caught any fish. The NBAA will be hosting the Winter Classic on June 6. Visit www.nbaanamibia.com for more information.
