Prost! to Oktoberfest

Beer has started flowing in the annual Oktoberfest activities, which commenced on Thursday at the Sport Klub Windhoek.

The traditional Festbier, a beer brewed exclusively for the Windhoek Oktoberfest, will again be on offer, along with other beverages and delicious food.

This year, eventgoers can again expect additional food stalls to cater to everyone’s palate, including those with vegetarian and gluten-free diets.

The Oktoberfest organising committee says their aim with the fiesta is to put Namibia on the map, as they stand for authenticity, culture and heritage – and they will try their level best to spread that through various games during the celebrations.

“We want to celebrate who we are, as Namibians, and invite everyone to join in that culture. When we say authenticity and purity, we also stand with what we produce in the country – the beautifully-crafted beers,” one of the organisers Norbert Wurm said in an earlier interview.

On Friday, festivalgoers can witness Windhoek Mayor Sade Gawanas officially opening proceedings with entertainment provided by Die Kirchdorfer from Germany, the Schuhplattler (Germany), the Jägermeister Brass Cartel (SA), Oktoberfest Dancers (Namibia) and Etjo Sounds (Namibia).

Saturday will be the last day of the festival, and it will provide traditional games, kiddies’ entertainment and the Oktoberfest last song, with entertainment provided by Die Kirchdorfer, Schuhplattler, the Jägermeister Brass Cartel, Roktoberfest Dancers, Etjo Sounds, Riaan Smit from Namibia and Nadia Hannsen – also from Namibia
