PTA Tennis Series back in action this weekend
2016-06-29Staff Report 2 Windhoek A significant number of Namibia’s finest tennis players will get a chance to showcase their skill when the fourth tourney of the Pro Tennis Academy (PTA) tennis series gets underway in Windhoek, this weekend. A lot has been going on since the last event in April. PTA head coach Romeo van Wyk attended a coaching clinic in the United States of America (USA) and will be eager to plough back the experience gained, with all categories still very much undecided. Arnaud Marais currently sits on top of the table in the Midi category. He also holds one second place and victory in the last tournament earned him 1800 points so far. But the young ace will have to pull out all stops this weekend with the trio of Samuel Mayinoti (1400), Utapi Muatjetjeja (1100) and Eila Kambonde (1000) still very much in contention. There is a similar scenario in the Intermediate Ladies Division. Faith Kahuure holds the first place with 2000 points courtesy of some strong showings over the first three events. Yet, the advantage of 400 points over second-placed Delicia Dirkse is far from comfortable. Christopher Jansen, on the other hand, has built up an insurmountable 600-point cushion over his biggest rival Randel Kavandje in the Intermediate Men category. Three wins from three attempts underlined his class and judging by these exploits, Jansen is hot favourite to add another 1000 championship points to his name this weekend. Cleet Farmer has been equally impressive since the beginning of the series, having taken maximum amount of wins, totalling 3000 points. Godwin Husselmann (2400) and Brandon Maasdorp (1600) will have to come up with something special to topple the log leader if they are to avoid losing sight of him. 2016-06-29Staff Report 2
