Queens reflect on challenging season…blames inexperience for poor performance

Omaheke Queens Football Team from Gobabis have endured a tough season, finding themselves at the bottom of the 14-team log standings of the Women’s Soccer League with three points after 22 matches.

In an interview with New Era Sport, coach Jermano Eiseb says the team has faced many challenges this season, ranging from starting preparations for the season late, the departure of many senior players some of whom came back to haunt his team, and conceding many goals.

“We have a relatively young and inexperienced team. Most of the girls are 11 to 13 years old, with the oldest player being 16 years old. We had 13-year-old Grace Eises scoring two goals in our match against Ramblers at the beginning of the season and we managed to secure three points,” he said.

When asked about addressing the team’s performance issues, Eiseb emphasised the use of video footage to identify areas of improvement and the need for a comprehensive team overhaul.

Regarding changes in strategy and tactics, he acknowledged the need for adjustments but preferred to keep their plans undisclosed.

Looking ahead, Eiseb revealed the long-term goals for the team, which include producing talent for the national team, signing international players, playing friendly matches outside Namibia and exposing players to international opportunities.

Eiseb called for sponsorship for the team in the form of casual wear and incentives for the girls.

The coach also stated that he has already engaged management in preparation for next season, with plans already afoot to bring in new playing personnel.

Omaheke Queens are currently last in the standing with one win and three points after 22 matches played.

The team has conceded a total of 242 goals and scored only 10 goals.

When asked about plans for strengthening the squad and potential changes to the coaching staff during the off-season, the coach confirmed discussions with management.
