Ras, unique, perfect and talented!
Windhoek “He is an artist with his own unique style and diversity.  He is a perfectionist and talented artist of this generation.  He fits into all class and has an extensive influence in the Namibian music scene.” This is how Savannah Afros describe Namibian music legend, Ras Sheehama, on the eve of his 50th birth day anniversary cncert at the Warehouse Theatre tomorrow. Adding that the muso is important on the Namibian music scene. The trio say they started working closely with the Legend last year and have collaborated on countless occasions such as the Mystic Acoustic, Jungle Gym and the Benediction . “Last year he invited us to play with him at Lucky Dube’s commemorations. We have done his music and he has done our music too. One event that we can’t forget about is last year when he was our guest artist at our Album launch. It was really an honor to have shared stage with a legend.” Celebrating the legend, albeit the trio, has been tough considering that they are from Zimbabwe and have a language barrier. This is despite the fact that they are doing one of his song, Nekwa , from his 1996 album, Travel, which speaks about mothers. “We have been teaching ourselves the Owambo lyric which was quite a challenge but we hope our fans will love the Shona version of the song. It has been really an unforgettable experience to be put of this celebration and we promise fire,” concludes the Savannah Afros. Elemotho says the Legend has blown his mind as a musician and admires his work. Although he has never collaborated with him, he once shared a stage with him and that is a privilege. “I will be performing my favourite song of Ras Travelling from my favorite album Travel,” adds Elemotho. Afro Savannahs and Elemotho are among the various local artists feature at Namibia’s musical legend, Ras Sheehama’s 50th birthday’s live concert tomorrow at the Warehouse Theatre.
