RDP adds five new members to NEC

The Rally for Democracy and Progress (RDP) has added five new members to its national executive committee (NEC), bringing the total number to 21, the party’s spokesperson Nghiningiluandubo Kashume has said.

The new members are Lebeus Hamata from Oshana region, Metumo Nghimovena (Kavango East), Hafeni Ndivayele (Otjozondjupa), Isak Mokanya (Ohangwena) and Ebson Louw Nditonganga Muhipa from Khomas.

The party recently held a central committee meeting at Rundu in the Kavango East.

Furthermore, Kashume said the meeting also took a deep analysis of the party performance in the 2019 general elections and similarly critically looked at local authority and regional council elections of 2020 where the party failed to win a single seat.

“We noted that some party senior members resigned in the heat of the election campaign and thus has also negatively affected the performance of the party,” Kashume said, adding that despite the resignations and political setbacks, RDP stands ready not only to maintain the synthesis to grow its relevance within the political playing field but also determine to mount a vigorous political mobilisation and campaign.

Therefore, he said, the central committee resolved among others that the process of restructuring, reforming and re-energising all party structures must begin without delay, hence the new members.

“We also resolved that the revival programme, visibility and outreach activities should be embarked upon in all regions, districts, and branches and at the level of assembly of members which is the base,” he stresses.

“Party structures must be reformed, reactivated and re-energised to make RDP relevant and appealing not only to its members but also to the general public.” Additionally, Kashume said, the central committee also resolved to call for the extraordinary national convention scheduled for the month of September this year.

“The top organ of the RDP will deliberate on the agenda items that were postponed by the third ordinary national convention held 1-2 June 2019.

This will, include but not limited to the election of members of the central committee and the review of party statutory documents,” Kashume said.

On the scarcity of party financial resources, Kashume said the RDP central committee resolved that membership fees at all levels must be strengthened, paid and safely banked, adding that party cadres must exploit economic and financial opportunities that present themselves.

Kashume also said the meeting also resolved that the secretary general position left vacant by Brunhilde Cornelius following her resignation late last year will be openly contested at the September extraordinary national convention.
