Reho Falcons Snatch Late Winner
"By Confidence Musariri WINDHOEK A last gasp try by fullback Howard Titus was enough to propel Reho Falcons to the summit of the local rugby league as Western Suburbs went down 18-19 in a top of the table clash over the weekend. The encounter had failed to live to its high billing as both sides spent the afternoon squandering numerous try-scoring opportunities. And it needed a moment of madness from veteran winger Deon Mouton to break through the Suburbs' backline resulting, in the try that Titus converted. Falcons had taken an early lead in the game through two quick penalties from left wing Elroy Diergaardt before Suburbs flyhalf Justin Nel replied to make it 6-3. Suburbs top official James Camm blamed the referee of the day for a poor showing in a match where Falcons were awarded 8 penalties to Suburbs' six. ""We respect Falcons very much, but the result was influenced slightly by the match official, if you look at it from another angle,"" he said. By late yesterday afternoon, it had emerged that the referee, whose name could not be obtained at the time of going to the press, had handled five Surbubs/Reho Falcons clashes. And thrice, he has given a last minute penalty in favour of Falcons. In another match, Wanderers won 58-10 against Jaguars, to change the direction of the premiership as Suburbs were relegated to third position on the log with 30 points, two behind Wanderers who are now in the championship race. Falcons lead the table with 34 points, while giants United are slowly but surely kissing goodbye to their chances of being in the league title race after going down 37-29 to Rehoboth over the weekend.
