Several rape cases sully payday weekend

WINDHOEK - Police recorded four rape cases countrywide over the past weekend. Also, seven murder and two attempted murder cases were recorded.

In a rape case reported in Omusati Region, a 44-year-old woman was allegedly raped and robbed at Outapi last week.  It is alleged the woman was overpowered, threatened with a knife and raped by an Angolan man. 

“The man also robbed her of N$700 and a cellphone before fleeing with her handbag containing personal items and official documents,” confirmed Nampol spokesperson Chief Inspector Kauna Shiwambi.

The suspect was arrested and was due to appear in the Outapi Magistrate’s Court yesterday.
In another incident, a 23-year-old woman was allegedly lured from her house into the bushes by a man who then raped her. The man, also aged 23, was arrested and investigations continue in the matter.  Shikwambi said the incident happened on Saturday at about 00h15 in the nearby bushes between Rooiduin location and Nuwerus informal settlement.

In addition, police recorded seven murder cases and two attempted murders over the weekend, with a 44-year-old woman found lying unconscious and bleeding profusely with a cut wound to her head.
The woman was found in Mimosa Street, Kronlein at Keetmanshoop on Sunday at 02h30.

She was rushed to hospital where she is receiving medical attention.  Shikwambi said no one was arrested and police investigations continue. Anyone with information is requested to contact Chief Inspector Hanse on 0812303279.
In a similar incident, a 50-year-old man from Orunahi was arrested after allegedly shooting and killing a 23-year-old man with a pistol over alcohol. 

The victim was identified as Kavehimbiraeua Karokohe. 
The incident happened at Okahitua bar at Okakarara on Sunday at 13h30. 
The suspect allegedly shot Karokohe with a licensed pistol in the right shoulder, killing him instantly.
Police at Epako in Omaheke Region opened a murder case after a 22-year-old man, Ransley Kharigub, was stabbed with a knife and died on the spot after a quarrel between two groups. A 26-year-old suspect was arrested. 
Shikwambi said the next of kin of the deceased were informed.

Another 22-year-old man was allegedly stabbed four times with an unknown sharp object by a suspect after a fight at Tandango bar in Okombahe in Erongo Region. A case of attempted murder was opened. The suspect sustained serious injuries and was admitted to Omaruru State Hospital in a critical condition.
