Shot in the arm for Oshikuku support group
Oshikuku The Okathimakamwe Support Group from Oshikuku Constituency received a donation of various items from Oshikuku Constituency Aids Coordinating Committee (CACOC) through an initiative to encourage support groups to engage into income-generating activities. The group, consisting of ten women and one man from Okathimakamwe village in the Omusati Region plan to start generating income from food sales, but lacked financial means to acquire the basic equipment and stock. The donated items include an electric stove, dish-holders and fencing materials. Village headman Iita Gabriel Sakarias also donated a piece of land where they can set up their business. The group still needs some fencing material, kitchen utensils and start-up stock. The group approached Regional Councillor Modestus Amutse and informed him about their idea, whereupon Amutse appointed a committee of CACOC members to look into the request. It was on this basis that the items were sourced to give the Okathimakamwe support group a humble start in their business venture, says Amutse. The donation was handed to the group by Councillor Amutse and Pastor Chanda Wonder – also a member of CACOC – last week. Omusati Regional CACOC, on the recommendation of Oshikuku Constituency Office, also agreed to purchase additional items for the group. Amutse further appealed to the wider business community to support initiatives of support groups to help reduce their dependency on government.
