The official sponsors of the 17th edition of the Namibia Annual Sport Awards (Nasa) were announced yesterday by the Namibia Sports Commission (NSC), who also revealed a chairperson’s award of excellence has been added to the previously announced categories.
The sponsors are MTC, Debmarine Namibia, Nampower, Namibia Wildlife Resorts (NWR), New Era Publication Corporation (NEPC) and Standard Bank Namibia. The award ceremony is scheduled for 30 October at the Windhoek Gymnasium Private School under the theme ‘Celebrating Sporting Excellence’.
The event did not take place last year due to the Covid-19 pandemic, and it will this year only be attended by sponsors and nominated athletes.
“We are doing this taking into consideration the current challenges that we face as the Namibia sports industry and not only as the sports commission. You’ll agree with me that we have faced challenges during Covid-19 that forced us to have innovation and make sure we cut all costs,” said Nasa project director Chalo Chainda.
He noted they do not again want a situation that an athlete or coach who has competed is not nominated. “So, it’s an open event for all Namibian deserving athletes. However, the process must be followed – the nomination must be signed off by the president or the secretary general of the federation,” Chainda explained.
With the nomination process already open, federations are urged to submit their nominees before midnight on Monday, 4 October at 12 midnight.
