OMAUEUOZONJANDA – Renowned sport guru Kuveri Tjonga was elevated to a high rank in St. Joel Healing Mission Church in Africa at Epukiro over the weekend.

Tjonga, the current president of the Katutura Sports Union (KASU), and a public relations officer of the Epukiro Sports Council was recognised by his church due to his involvement in youth matters.

Speaking to the New Era Sport desk, Tjonga said his appointment as a church bishop at the Gobabis branch will not prevent him from indulging in sport activities and youth matters.

“I am happy with my new role in the church. I will continue to serve my church with the power of the Almighty,” he said.

Tjonga added that he will continue encouraging the youth to do sport and remind them of the word of God.

“As a christian, I did that and will continue collaborating sport activities with church ones. The majority of sport players are members of various churches, and we pray when commencing with our tournaments, which is a clear indication that we honour God,” the new bishop explained.

He assured the youth that KASU will remain and all its planned activities will continue as per the calendar.

On his part, the church leader, Archbishop Theo Pura, told this publication that Tjonga plays a pivotal role in the promotion of church activities among the youth.

“He is a versatile person who works hard to make sure youth attend church; he even generated income for the church from the sport tournaments he organised,” alluded Pura. Bishop Kavena Hengari will assist Bishop Tjonga, who has been the head of the church for 20 years, in leading the Gobabis branch. The appointment took place at the 48th anniversary of the St. Joel Apostolic Healing Mission Church in Africa, the commemoration of the founder, late Archbishop Petrus Kandovazu, who passed away in 1996, as well as the 27th year of pure leadership.

Hailing from Otjimanangombe, Tjonga is known for playing a vital role in developing rural sports and organising sport activities for Katutura youth under the KASU umbrella for 20 years. – zngaruka@yahoo.com
