Stars await crowning moment

African Stars are set to claim back-to-back titles tomorrow when they face relegation-bound Orlando Pirates at the Independence Stadium.

Stars need just a point to secure the 2023/24 Debmarine Namibia Premiership title. Currently, they sit comfortably atop the standings with 61 points, three points ahead of their closest challenger FC Ongos, who were held to a 0-0 draw on Saturday.

Even if Stars were to lose, they would still clinch the title unless Ongos FC win their match against Young African tomorrow by 15 goals, an unlikely scenario, given Stars’ superior goal difference.

In a brief conversation yesterday, Stars’ head coach Ronnie Kanalelo expressed the team’s high spirits and determination for the upcoming match.

“The mood in the camp is high, and we are looking forward to Saturday’s match. We don’t take this match lightly; we are heading there with the intention to collect maximum points and win the title. I think the boys did well this season, and we all deserve to end it on a high note,” he added. Stars clinched the league title last season with an impressive 73 points after losing only one game.

In other matches tomorrow, Tigers will take on Civics at 13h00, while Unam will face relegated Life Fighters at 16h00, both at the same venue.

Khomas Nampol, who impressed this season after gaining promotion from the first division, will challenge Young Brazilian at the Hage Geingob Stadium at 16h00.

Blue Waters will clash with Okahandja United at Jan Wilken stadium at 16h00 in a highly-anticipated encounter, while Julinho Sporting will battle for survival against Okakarara Young Warriors at Rundu Sports Stadium at 16h00.

At Omulunga Stadium, Mighty Gunners will square off against Eeshoke Chula Chula at 16h00.
