Stylish Karate-Zen Club wins big … Another milestone for Dr Mathe
2015-05-21Staff Report 2 Windhoek One of Namibia’s most accomplished female karatekas, Aletha Kativa, led the Windhoek-based Karate-Zen Style Club to an astonishing 22-medal haul at the recently concluded Karate-Zen International Annual Club Championships in Cape Town. The cat-footed Kativa claimed gold in the kumite bout before adding a bronze medal in the kata demonstration to crown a near faultless display at the championships. Jane Koper returned the compliment to the celebrated stable mate when she claimed a double - courtesy of a silver (kata demo) and bronze (kumite bout). Jose Williams was the proud recipient of a bronze medal in kumite, while Jona won a bronze apiece in the kata and kumite contests respectively. In other action, Clarence Uaritje added to Namibia’s medal tally with a gold medal in kata and bronze in the kumite bout while Evelyn Amakali was not to be outdone either, as she won the precious gold medal in kata. Tubafwile Doctrine won silver (kumite) and bronze (kata) and Salon Tulonga claimed a bronze medal in the exhibitive kata apparatus while Sakaria Shikomba completed the line-up for gold medallists in kumite, accompanied by a silver medal in kata. The Namibians collected 22 medals - six gold, six silver and 10 bronze medals. Other results read as follows; George Simasiku - silver (kumite) Kalvin Shamu - bronze (kumite) and (kata) Leah Angula - silver (kata) bronze (kumite) Justina Shipunda - bronze (kata) and silver (kumite) Yotham Simasiku - bronze (kata) And to put the cherry on top of the cake, Namibia walked away with the biggest accolade at the tourney when Dr Audrin Mathe was sworn in as Deputy President of Karate-Zen International. Another Namibian, Renchi Gert Husselman, was sworn in an Exco member in the capacity of Chief Instructor of Karate-Zen to represent Namibia. The travelling entourage was under the stewardship of Sempai Yotham Simasiku and Sempai Junias Hamalwa. As of next year, the annual international championship will operate on a rotational basis between South Africa and Namibia. This new concept would enhance opportunities for local karatekas to get involved in the annual showpiece.
