Namibia’s two top racehorses clinched victory in the main races of the Alex Angermund commemoration competition held in Rehoboth on Saturday in collaboration with Standard Bank Namibia.

The 1400-metre (m) distance was the main race for both Nambred and Thoroughbred horses at the event’s 10th edition, whereas an amount of N$100 000 was distributed among winning horses on 15 plates in addition to trophies and medals.

Sunny Side from Professor Supporters Club (PSC) took first place in the 1400 m Nambred D/A division, with Angermund’s Flowing River coming in second and Boma from Harambee Racing taking third.

Mr F of Eamon Freygang dominated in the 1400m of the Thoroughbred horses despite being challenged by Bold Boundaries of PSC in second place.

Seasonal horse Starlile from Okahandja Racing bagged the third spot in the highly contested plate, comprised of 11 top Thoroughbred horses.

Leopard Lady Junius Racing and Victor Kaune’s Prince, who finished second and third in the 1000 m of maiden horses, respectively, challenged Uaraa Tjiho’s Ovitoto Racing’s Hotline for first place.

Among other sprints, Eamon Freygang’s Girl Scout finished first in the 1000 m of the imported maiden horses, with
Khomas Turf’s Global Forest coming in second and Queen Britannia of Angermund Racing (AR) coming in third.

Varistocracy of WT Racing stole the show after emerging winner in the distance of 1200m of the import graduation horses.

AR’s Camerata followed the WT Racing horse in second place, whereas Eamon Freygang’s Lilly of Orange claimed third place. Another seasonal horse, Able Surprise of WT Racing, clinched victory in the 1800m of imported A division category horses, where French Leave challenged it in second and Bold Diva in third, both from Aminuis Racing and AR, respectively.

Eamon Freygang, whose horses scooped prizes at the event, said he put a lot of effort into maintaining and training his horses.

“Mr F did well; he is currently the champion horse and will do well in 1600 m in the coming events. It was costly to buy this horse, but now it’s time to reap from it,” said Freygang.

Stone Katuuo from PSC said he was overwhelmed by the performance of
Sunny Side in Rehoboth.

“Sunny Side has matured; its fitness is superb, and it is now not fearing any horses in its division,” said Katuuo.

He also praised their club’s emerging horse, Bold Boundaries, who came in second in the A division category of imported horses. - zngaruka@yahoo.com
