Walvis Bay, along with Swakopmund and Windhoek, recently had the honour of hosting the Playtime Festival, one of the most prestigious youth tournaments on Cricket Namibia’s calendar.

In a media statement made available by Cricket Namibia to this publication, the event was hosted from the 21 September to October 2023.

“The event has grown in prominence over the years, saw a convergence of young cricket enthusiasts, reflecting the sport’s deep roots and burgeoning future in the country. This year, the youth tournament, under a new partner, Playtime Festival facilitated five youth tournaments that saw a staggering 45 teams over 139 fiercely contested matches. Such participation levels are a testament to the sport’s popularity among the youth and the continued efforts of Cricket Namibia to foster and develop young talent,” the statement said.

The sponsorship from Playtime Namibia, an organisation known for its dedication to broadening and promoting sports in the country, provided a significant boost to the event.

“Their commitment and considerable investment ensured the festival’s smooth running, making it a memorable experience for the young cricketers,” the statement added.

It added that the festival was not about competition; it was a celebration of the spirit of the game among our young cricketers.

“Beyond the boundaries and wickets, it was an opportunity for young cricketers to learn, interact, and grow.

It was a platform where they could showcase their skills, understand teamwork and sportsmanship, and most importantly, foster friendships that transcend the cricket field,” the statement added.

The Playtime Festival left behind memories, moments of glory, lessons learned, and a promise of a brighter cricketing future for Namibia.
