Tigers suffer first defeat, but remain on top
Windhoek Despite having suffered their first defeat of the season against rivals Black Africa on Saturday, coach Brian Isaacs of the early pacesetters of the MTC Premiership, Tigers FC, yesterday maintained that there is no need to start pressing panic buttons, saying they still have what it takes to lift the league trophy. Tigers lost 3-0 to a spirited Black Africa side on Saturday at Sam Nujoma Stadium. Two goals by striker Roger Katjiteo and one by the ever hardworking Dynamo Fredericks were enough see BA through. Tigers yesterday managed however to dust themselves off with a morale-boosting 1-0 victory over struggling Flamingoes also at Sam Nujoma Stadium. Yesterday’s win over Flamingoes means Tigers restored their nine-point lead at the summit of the log table Premiership, as the closest league title rivals, Black Africa, lost 2-0 to African Stars yesterday. “After going so many games without defeat I knew that at one point we would suffer a loss, as the players started becoming complacent and that’s very dangerous at this stage. I’m not really disappointed with the defeat, but what bothers me most is the fashion in which we lost. It’s not good losing with such a margin, Isaacs said. “We’ve taken the positives from the defeat and I told the players that it was a wake-up call, meaning we can’t afford to start relaxing or feel untouchable. That’s why I made wholesale changes to the team that played on Saturday against BA. I also wanted to give other players a chance to prove their hunger against Flamingoes yesterday and it worked out perfectly.” Weekend Results Sunday, February 28 Tigers 1-0 Flamingoes African Stars 2-0 Black Africa Blue Waters 3-1 Mighty Gunners Eleven Arrows 1-2 Citizens Saturday, February 27 Tigers 0-3 Black Africa African Stars 3-1 Flamingoes Eleven Arrows 0-1 Mighty Gunners Blue Waters 2-0 Citizens
