2016-11-24Staff Report 2 TransNamib workers protested in front of the company’s headquarters yesterday to demand answers as to why they will not get their 13th cheque in December, as contractually agreed. The workers said the management called a meeting yesterday morning to announce that there would be no bonuses next month. The aggrieved workers say this was done without any explanation or consultation. Workers protesting at the company’s headquarters in Windhoek also forcefully searched vehicles leaving the premises to stop management cadre from leaving the scene before a proper explanation is given. John Kwedi, the general secretary of the Namibian Transport and Allied Workers Union (NATAU) that represents TransNamib workers, said the union had not received any official communication from TransNamib regarding the bonuses. TransNamib’s acting CEO, Hippy Tjivikua, and board chairperson Paul Smit could not be reached for comment, as their phones went unanswered. 2016-11-24Staff Report 2
