2015-08-12Staff Report 2 Ruacana The Deputy Minister in the Office of the Prime Minister Christine //Hoebes says there is still much to be done in the remaining 15 years to Vision 2030. Vision 2030 would see Namibia become industrialised, and while there is still much needed to build an inclusive society she reckons it requires people “to overcome their diverse backgrounds in pursuit of the common vision”. “Vision 2030 is an ambitious undertaking, yet an achievable one, but a lot still needs to be done in the ensuing 15 years to see the attainment of this vision,” echoed //Hoebes. //Hoebes made the remarks in a motivational speech at a gala dinner held at Ruacana recently, to celebrate the 10th anniversary of the Ruacana Town Council. //Hoebes said the days of coming to work without putting in an honest day’s work and then thinking that performance is not going to be evaluated, are long gone. “You will give account of your performance based on the performance target you have committed to in the agreement,” said //Hoebes. Public servants are in the process of signing performance agreements and declaring their financial interests to avoid a conflict of interest and ensure government work is not compromised. //Hoebes said government is working hard to include local authorities to account for their work and declare their assets. //Hoebes called upon local authorities to ensure people in the area have basic services. Local authorities, she further advised, should include community members and all other stakeholders in consultations and decision-making on matters such as budgets and forums. She added that communication between the local authority and residents will help council determine the needs of the community and whether they are met. “If you want to represent people and fight for their interests, it is very important to understand the type of service they need and how service can be delivered,” advised //Hoebes. Although she reckons local authorities are challenged with a lack of finances or lack of capacity to provide good services at an affordable price, “government will assist local authorities to find ways to improve services and reach the community”. 2015-08-12Staff Report 2
