WINDHOEK -  It was a weekend of suicides and rapes, information by the police revealed yesterday.

A security guard committed suicide on the premises of Mupewa Combined School on Friday at about 18:00 after he was due to be transferred to Oshakati due to his behaviour, Sergeant Slogan Matheus informed the media yesterday. The security guard has been identified as Alugodhi Tobias Paduleni, 27. 

Yesterday at about 6:30am Fanuel Mati, 18, a learner at C.J. Secondary School in Windhoek was found hanging from a tree in a riverbed between Hakahana and Wanaheda. He did not leave a suicide note.

In Ongwediva, Moses David Hanghome, 31, was last seen on Saturday but his body was discovered hanging from a tree in Oshoopala location yesterday. 

Another suicide occurred on Saturday at around 23:00 at Onamutayi village, in the Ongwediva area. Elias Ndidalelwa Shimonga, 24, hanged himself with a wire from a tree in a mahangu field. 

Also yesterday at 2am in Aminuis three suspects broke into the house of a teacher, 28, and raped her. The two suspects are aged 16, while one is 19 years old.

An 11-year-old girl was raped by two men, Johannes Erick, 22, and Risto Hawala Paulus, 27, in the Ohangwena Region. 

The men appeared in the Ohangwena Magistrate’s Court on 14 August and were denied bail. The matter was remanded to 26 September.

Matheus informed the media that the girl was sent by her parents to the shop and when she passed the two men they called her into their hut. They instructed her to undress and had sexual intercourse with her. 

The men stay in the same compound as the girl.

The matter was reported to the police on 13 August.

On Thursday at 23:00 at Nosovel location in Gobabis, a 27-year-old woman was raped by a 20-year-old man. The man allegedly grabbed the woman and pulled her into a caravan and had sex with her. 

The man has been arrested and is due to appear in the Gobabis Magistrate’s Court tomorrow.

In Omuthiya, on Thursday at 7am at Oshalongo village, Matheus Ngidengwa George, 42, hanged himself with a rope in his room.
