Western Suburbs rule the rugby roost
WINDHOEK – Namibia Rugby Union (NRU) Premier League reigning champions Western Suburbs defeated old foes Rehoboth Rugby Club by a resounding 34-21 to retain the league title, at the Hage Geingob Stadium in Windhoek on Saturday. In what turned out to be an intriguing final where both teams looked very sharp in various departments of their game,Suburbs started off on a strong note as they put up a courageous performance with their good ball handling techniques and occasional counter-attacks. Showing much determination, Suburbs signaled their intentions early in the opening stage of the game and proved more effective and clinical compared to Rehoboth. Suburbs played well as a unit and showed much composure and organisation in all sectors. They delivered more crucial onslaughts that kept the Rehobothers at bay many a time. But the Rehobothers also showed determination and hunger for success. Rehoboth played their usual physical game while delivering constant onslaughts and also troubled Suburbs in the middle of the park.   However both teams kept delivering somewhat halfhearted attacks heading into the final stages of the highly entertaining encounter, although Suburbs was more impelling and managed to tightly hold on for a 34-21 victory. In other results, Wanderers trounced Reho Falcon by 80-22 to win the final of the NRU Premier League Plate competition, while  Phoenix whitewashed Rehoboth by 12-0 to claim top honours in the NRU women's league final.
